Join in the singing!
The choirs of the First Lutheran Church of Boston and Mt Calvary Lutheran Church of Action will celebrate Mother's Day with a festive hymn sing featuring contemporary Lutheran hymn arrangements by Paul Manz, Richard Hillert, Jay Althouse, Hal Hopson, Mark Hayes, and more.
The 2010 FLC Hymn Festival, titled "Hymns of Sacrifice, Love and Praise, is sponsored by the FLC music ministry and is free and open to all. Irina Shachneva of Mt Calvary will conduct the choir, accompanied by a brass quintet, handbells, and Balint Karosi on organ.
The festival features well-known hymns of the Easter and Lent season that speak to the price Christ paid out of love. The theme is also to honor mothers -- who themselves often endure sorrow and sacrifice out of love -- through the image of Christ, who has made the ultimate sacrifice and is the eternal source of love. Some of these hymns include:
Thine is the Glory
My Hope is Built on Nothing Less
Lift High the Cross
This is the Feast
Worthy is Christ
All Creatures of Our God
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
Dr. Christopher Boyd Brown, assistant professor of church history at the Boston University School of Theology, will offer insightful commentary and devotions between the singing.
The congregation is welcome to join our singers and bell ringers in a Mother's Day reception after the concert.
