Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  Our current study is on the Epitome of the Formula of Concord.  If you do not have a copy of the Book of Concord or the Lutheran Service Book we are providing them for free.

This week’s psalm is Psalm 66.  The Small Catechism lesson is the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.

We will be studying Article V: Law and Gospel.  We will discuss the importance of the proper distinction between Law and Gospel, and how it is not just merely a way of reading the Scriptures but rather the way God acts and speaks with us.  We will also discuss how reproof and repentance properly is a work of the Law, and how the Gospel is then the answer to repentance.  For a full summary of what we have discussed we will then sing the great Reformation hymn “Salvation Unto Us Has Come” (LSB 555).

If we have time will also cover Article VI: The Third Use of God’s Law.  We will discuss the three uses of the Law: the curb, the mirror, and the guide.  We will then talk about how even the regenerate man rightly desires to hear and use God’s Law.  We will close with the hymn “‘Come, Follow Me’ the Savior Spake” (LSB 688).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
